Triumph™ Elm, tall tree with sweeping arching branches

Discover More Information On Triumph™ Elm

When you need to add a magnificent tree to your outdoor spaces, make sure to select the Triumph elm (Ulmus ‘Morton Glossy’). This particular cultivar is known as the best modern elm on the market. The impressive oval habit develops early, and it will quickly form into a vase-like shape. If you are looking for that spectacular element for your next project, add the Triumph elm to your garden.

Plant Attributes

This elm is the result of cultivation between Accolade and Vanguard elms. The Triumph elm features a graceful upright habit and strong branching. You can expect this elm to grow about 60 feet tall and 30 feet wide. Small green leaves start to appear in the spring. These glossy leaves feature tooth-margins and asymmetrical bases. The Triumph elms also produce wafer-like samaras that mature around April. During the fall, the dark green leaves transform into a burnished golden yellow hue. You will want to add this tree to your landscape for its color and hardiness. The Triumph elm is prized for its resistance to Dutch elm disease, elm yellows, and the elm leaf beetle.

Landscape Use

If you want to add a hardy elm to your landscape, then you should choose the Triumph. This elm is a valuable asset to your yard. You may want to plant in an informal garden to create a park-like setting for those large properties. Before you plant these beauties in your yard, give them plenty of room to grow. These elms are stunning additions to your spaces. While this variety provides some beauty, the Triumph is also a tough tree.

These trees mix well with other tree species. If you need some color and shade for a boulevard, you might want to plant the Triumph elms in a row for a fantastic shaded avenue. The Triumph elm makes a striking appearance when blended with shade trees. As those other trees transform into hues of red, burgundy, and orange, your yard will be filled with an abundance of colors. You might want to cluster these trees with evergreens, dogwood shrubs, or ornamental grasses. Triumph elms also make the ideal backdrop for smaller ornamental shrubs, such as flowering dogwoods. The possibilities are endless with this spectacular Triumph elm.

Planting & Care

This elm can adapt to various soil conditions, and it will acclimate to extremes in moisture, temperatures, and pH. However, this tree will do its best in well-draining soils. You also need to place it in full sunshine. If you are looking for planting spots in your landscape, you need to ensure those areas receive six hours of sunlight per day. Under average home landscape conditions, this elm will thrive. Since it can handle urban pollution, it is the perfect choice for those city environments.

During the young tree’s first season, the elm needs a medium amount of water. When the weather turns hotter, you may have to boost the watering schedule. However, once the Triumph has established in your yard, it can survive those periodic droughts. You still need to apply supplemental water to encourage a healthy tree. When the trees have enough moisture, they remain healthy and stress-free. You might want to add some mulch around the roots to keep them moist and cool. While pruning the Triumph elm is not necessary, you can cut the branches in the early spring. You need to be careful when pruning this tree, and you should never cut the tree when it is young. Untrained pruning can cause the canopy to become unbalanced.
